sciatica stretching

Tae Kwon Do to be more beneficial or detrimental if I suffer from sciatica?
I suffered from sciatica for over 6 years, but I really would like to join Tae Kwon Do, Do not know if it would be injured or if the stretch would help me improve.
I'm no doctor and I'm not familiar with sciatica, TKD but can be very intense in the legs and back. It is a martial art that focuses primarily on kicks and demands to be in excellent physical condition (not saying no are, of course) usually requires TKD sparring with pads, so do not know if that could affect your sciatica. Certainly some of the stretches and movements can be useful, but I think you might want to talk to your doctor before beginning any martial art. Good luck!
