lower back pain radiating down legs

pain in my lower back and radiates down through the buttocks on my lap?
have problems in my lumbar spine L4 L5-S1 area. have had injections and physical therapy, but still in pain that is affecting my quality of life does anyone know anything that can help
I am a nursing student but my actual experience with this comes from my boyfriend. Just had a spinal fusion and laminectomy in September 2006. He is still experiencing pain as you describe. I'm not sure what type of physical therapy I had, but it very aquatic therapy reduced the pain and helped to strengthen his back. PT Regular only seemed to cause additional pain. I know from the area listed companies (L4, L5, S1) that pain is consistent with an injury or nerve compression to that area. Obviously he's seeing a doctor, so assume you have had an MRI done (if not get it as soon as possible.) I think probably has the best medical advice, so I hope that the experiences of others can be useful for you. My boyfriend had a herniated disk makes years and had debilitating pain later. The doctor suggested biking to strengthen your back. He (my BF) swears by bicycling to reduce pain. However, this seems to have helped with some pain, and some who could not help. I think the general theme in all that has helped in reducing pain is to strengthen the muscles. If the muscles are strong, help keep things in proper alignment and make it less nerve compression. Unfortunately, sometimes if the compression too bad you really need surgical treatment. Well, I hope something here can be useful for you. I know how painful it is! If shots high cortocosteroids dose? According to my nursing book (Smeltzer and naked) Textbook of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Administration of corticosteroids at high doses in 8 hours of injury has improved sensory and motor outcomes at 6 weeks, 6 months and 1 year. Therefore, you may need to continue the shots, if you have not tried All this time too. How are your reflexes? Do you have a normal neurological examination? Here is a website which is full of great resources http://www.makoa.org/sci.htm gene # In addition, www.scihotline.org www.spinalcord.org and I'm not an expert and this is just my opinion that can help, like talking to your doctor anything about different remedies and rehabs that you are. They know their situation and whether it is safe for you to do certain exercises, etc. .. I hope these resouces will put you in the direction correct for relief.
