back muscle pain medicine

Back pain with irritation of the L3, L4 nerve roots can cause pain and spasm in the rectus muscle and the pain and spasm of this muscle will aggravate back pain.
This muscle is one of the four muscles called the quadriceps muscles. The quadriceps are the muscles in the front of the thigh and are responsible for straightening knee.
The rectus femoris arises from an area in the pelvic bone is known as superior iliac spine and the bone just above the joint hip. It is inserted into the upper edge of the patella (kneecap) and also to the tubercle on the front of the shin bone (tibia). Its action is bend top of the thigh (hip flexion) and straighten the knee (knee extension). Get the provision of the L2-L4 nerve roots through the femoral nerve.
From the rectus femoris is the only muscle of the quadriceps that crosses over the hip and the knee joint, this muscle is vulnerable to injury than the other three quadriceps muscles (vastus lateralis, vastus medialis and vastus intermedius).
When the hip and knees bent as sitting, crouching or squatting, rectus femoris and tensor fascia lata muscles are very tight in the hip and knee stretched excessively. This predisposes the muscles to easily get traumatized. In addition, the aging of the L3, L4 nerve root lesion or irritation of the presence of degenerative arthritis of the spine, herniated disc, bulging disc are also responsible for the neurogenic underlying weakness in this muscle.
Since the quadriceps is essential to maintain a stable knee down the stairs, slopes and on the stage of foot after the heel strikes the ground, the weakness of the rectus femoris and tensor fascia lata (which also has fibers of the L4 nerve root) may predispose people to falls.
To strengthen the rectus femoris and muscles tensor fascia lata, the principle involves education starting first with the shortening of the spinal extensor contractions from the neck to the lower back and muscles hip extensors. The hip flexor tightness is secondary to the contraction of the unbalanced hip flexor muscles such as rectus femoris, tensor fascia lata adductor muscles and iliopsoas muscles in the presence of weak back and hip extensors, such as the gluteus maximus, the bottom of the adductor magnus muscle and of the hamstrings. When the knee is flexed, the hamstrings are not participating in right hip (extension). Therefore most of the force of the hamstring muscles goes to the knee flexion (bending).
The health education tends to slow the contractions of the extensor the spine and hip extensor muscles such as the gluteus maximus and adductor magnus to perform first return strength to these muscles. These muscles are the main extensor muscles constantly exposed to lengthening contractions in the hip making them weak.
In the knee, weakness in the results of extension force in unopposed pull of the flexor muscles of the knee. The shortening and spasm in the flexor muscles of the knee, such as tendons and muscles twins are difficult to unleash. Therefore the shortening contractions of the knee extensor muscles, such as the rectus femoris, tensor fascia lata and the other three quadriceps muscles is needed first.
It is difficult to isolate these muscles to be trained individually for shortening contractions. activation selective of these muscles is best performed with motor point stimulation using the eToims Twitch Relief Method.
Thus, in the treatment of lumbar pain and discomfort, the rectus femoris has to be treated together with all other large and powerful muscles that cross multiple joints and are exposed to an elongation contractions. Therefore, treatments should affect muscles throughout the spine from the neck to the base of the spine, gluteus maximus, adductor magnus, and tensor fascia lata muscles at least.

Jennifer Chu, M.D. emeritus professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, pioneered eToims Twitch Relief Method that utilizes surface electrical stimulation to locate motor points (trigger points). The motor points are then stimulated to induce strong local muscle contractions, termed twitches. This results in reduced muscle pain and discomfort in the areas that were stimulated. The involved pain/discomfort-relieving mechanism is thought to include local muscle exercise and stretch effects. eToims Soft Tissue Comfort Center® specializes in diagnosis and treatment which ends muscle discomfort and pain.
